CIVIL UNREST CONTINUES
CALLS FOR DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS
MUTINEERS EXECUTED

ÅLESUND - As youth protest spread to nearly every major city, leaders of the draft protest were executed as mutineers by the War Office. The first such executions in Aedeland since the Pan Anarian War.

The Fører and leaders of the Althing refuse to characterize the situation as a crisis. However, all have recognized that protests have grown exponentially since the draft incident in Vinterset only weeks ago. According to anonymous sources within the Gimli, the Fører has concieted that some reforms are indeed overdue and has given reassurances that the voices of the protesters have been heard.

What were originally protests limited to those called to active service in the Hanniyays, Has expanded to include a number of issues centered primarily democratic reforms but other issues, including regional independence and even calls for Haverist revolution, have been pressed.

Many within the Althing blame warming relations with Helriech for the rise of Haverist agitators in Aedeland. “These radical political ideologies have been normalized,” explains Jon av Heilterling, Ældermann from northern Mildeland. “Less than five years ago no one would publicly admit to being a Haverist but now they preach their discontent publicly in the streets.”

The Haverists have taken full advantage of the situation championing the popular desire among the youth in particular for democratic reforms. No other political alliance in Aedeland has been willing to consider popular elections or any expansion of the role of the Folkmot. This is primarily because there is no political incentive to pursue the issue under the current system of government. The Haverists, who are completely excluded from the things and possess and inconsequential representation in the Folkmot, have harnessed an unrecognized political reservoir that the old establishment cannot easily ignore.
