Auresian Warships Sighted Near Istanian Colonies

Ships operating in the Vittherean Sea reported early this morning, after docking in Amberia, of having sighted an entire task force of Auresian warships in the vicinity of the Istanian colonies of Lorena and Vitherrea four days ago, according to an Amberian news release.

Two independent freighters flagged out of Fisks and operating in the area reported that they first sighted the warships about an hour after having left dock at Puerto del Rosa, the main settlement in Lorena. They maneuvered to sail around the assembled ships after being warned off by a message via signal lamp to keep their distance.

According to lookouts and the captain of the lead ship, the Maritime Jewel, thirty-eight warships, including three battleships, were counted. Accompanying the warships were what looked like four heavy transports, two colliers, and at least one fleet supply ship. The lookout who counted the ships also claimed that one of the battleships was flying a special flag alongside and slightly below the Scarlet Standard, but could not clearly describe it.

The ships that initially reported the encounter say they sent a message back to the Istanian authorities in Puerto del Rosa, concerned that something was wrong, but received only a perfunctory response. The message and reply are printed here, translated -

FREIGHTER MARITIME JEWEL TO PUERTO DEL ROSA
RESPOND

PUERTO DEL ROSA TO MARITIME JEWEL

MARITIME JEWEL TO PUERTO DEL ROSA
AURESIAN SHIPS SIGHTED...100 NM NORTHWARD

PUERTO DEL ROSA TO MARITIME JEWEL
MESSAGE RECEIVED AND UNDERSTOOD

The captain of the Maritime Jewel says he directed his wireless operator to signal Puerto del Rosa at least three more times over the course of the next half hour, but no further responses ever came.

A request sent in to the Auresian Foreign Office for comment has remained unanswered as of this publication.
