This is a list of reigning Dukes of Stachelort. The Duchy of Stachelort came into existence by grant of the Greater Stoldavic Empire on October 10, 7152 in an effort by the Empire to counter the rise of Stellist-Orkanan in Helreich. The effort failed and the Empire collapsed in 7156, at which time the Duchy became independent. It remained so until the reign of the nobility in Stachelort was abolished during the Preservationist Coup in 7545.

Reigning dukes

The first Duke (Stoldish: Herzog) was Luitger von Sulzbach and all of the succeeding dukes were from the House of Sulzbach. Each reigning duke's sons bore the title of Duke of Stachelort but sons of non-reigning dukes did not. Because Luitger had given his name as his first born son's middle name, it became tradition for the reigning dukes to give their first born son Luitger as a middle name. It also became tradition for the second born son's middle name to be the grandfather's first name.

Claim to the throne

The last reigning duke, Gunther Luitger, although he signed a document—the Framework of the Republic of Stachelort—abdicating the throne, steadfastly maintained his claim on the throne until his death. Each succeeding heir apparent has continued the claim to the throne despite the monarchy having been abolished.

Line of succession follows a male-preference primogeniture. This means the first son is heir apparent, followed in order of birth by any other sons and then grandsons in order of birth. The current claimant to the throne is Joachim Luitger von Sulzbach (born May 5, 7557).
