A map of the continent of Anaria

Anaria is a continent located mostly in the northern hemisphere, separated from all other land masses by the sea. It is bordered by the Sinian Sea to the north-west, by the North Sea to the north-east, by the Stolvic Ocean and Settant Sea to the east, by the Viverian Sea to the south, and the Ovestan Sea to the west. Anaria covers 19,449,631 km² (7,509,545 sq mi) and is by far the most populous continent on Gotha, with over 920 million people, approximately 34% of the world's population.

The continent is divided into numerous subcontinents and regions, the largest and most important being Adhem, Anaria Major, Anaria Minor, Stoldavia, and Thultannia. At the western-most point of the continent, the Straits of Afti separate Anaria from the continent of Tharna; at the northern-most point, Anaria is separated from Jorveh by the Straits of Andlat; and at the southern-most point, by the Simal Strait to Tzeraka. Due to the continent's position, Anarian geography and climate are hugely varied. The northern half of the continent is largely temperate, varying from harsh winter conditions in Stoldavia to hot summers around the Medio Sea, while the south, particularly Adhem is tropical and sub-tropical, with the equator running through northern Adhem.

Anaria is home to some of the most powerful states on Gotha, many of them retaining large overseas colonial empires that dominate much of the rest of the planet. The so-called 'Anarian Great Powers' are a loose categorisation of the most powerful of these states, who exert considerable influence and power within Anaria and around Gotha. Anaria has the largest economy of any continent, with over 59.3% of the world's total GDP, and has most of the highest GDP per capita states in the world.

Anaria has been home to some of the most ancient and influential cultures in Gotha, with the Medio Sea, Anaria Major, and Stoldavia all hosting numerous empires and civilisations that have had a profound effect on religion, culture, politics, society, and history. Amongst the most significant Anarian civilisations are the Auresian Empire, the Dragar Monopoly, the Greater Stoldavic Empire, the Orkanan Realm of Stoldavia, and the Parnethian Empire. Anaria was also the birthplace of many of the worlds main religions, including: Dlroch'veldr, The Faith, Orkanan, and Sadarisnism. Today, with many Anarian nations controlling large colonial empires, Anarian cultures, languages, customs, art, literature, religions, science, and technology are hugely influential throughout Gotha.

The Moreva Petroleum Corporation - also more commonly known as the SMP - is an Anisoran oil and gas company headquartered in Pena. It is a vertically integrated company operating in all areas of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and production, refining, distribution and marketing, petrochemicals, power generation and trading.

The company was founded in 7496 through the merger of "Lusavanic Oil" (Lusavano Petrolio) and the Pandagna Oil Company, after vast oil deposits were discovered in Moreva, in the Grand Principality of Lusava and Vascano, which turned out to be the second most productive deposit in the world. It is the most profitable corporation trading in Anisora, is the largest oil corporation in Anaria and is one of the largest and most profitable companies on Gotha. SMP has a primary listing on the Pena Stock Exchange, and has secondary listings on the Auresian ImEx and the Aedelish Imperial Mercantile Exchange.

SMP has business interests throughout Gotha, and has active operations in X countries worldwide and is generally seen as the main Anarian competitor of the Anat Tahani oil corporations of Tharna. The Corporation’s major operations are located primarily in Anisora, centred around the vast oilfields of Moreva (from where SMP gets its name), as well as on and around the islands of Fazagoria and Vecarri in the Medio Sea. Operations abroad include oil extraction and refinement in Hattaria, in Auresia, and other locations.

The company is majority state-owned, with the Anisoran imperial government having obtained a controlling stake of 51% in 7508, during the Pan-Anarian War, to secure oil supplies for the war effort, with the company becoming one of the single most important energy suppliers of the Aschgæt Alliance. After the end of the war, Anisora faced large debts and looming economic disaster. According to the Anisoran economist G. Lisabetta Gorgiano, "the oil industry, which in effect meant the Moreva Petroleum Corporation, single handedly saved Anisora from post-war bankruptcy. Today the company enjoys large profits and remains a significant source of income for the Anisoran Treasury.

Michele XI in 7562

Michele XI of Matrignano (full name: Lino Michele Adriano Giulio da Matrignano) is the current Grand Prince of Matrignano, having reigned since the death of his father, Michele X, in 7541. He is among the oldest living royals in Anaria, and is the most senior royal in Anisora after the Emperor of the Anisorans himself.

Born in Larzo two years after the onset of the Pan-Anarian War, he became Crown Prince and Duke of Sarino at the age of thirteen after his father's ascension to the Matrignanese throne in 7513. After completion of his education, he enrolled in the Royal Matrignanese Military Academy, beginning a full-time military army career. Upon completion of his training, he was a lieutenant (and honorary colonel) of the Duke of Sarino's Regiment. The assassination of Emperor Flavian cut short his hopes of service on the Western Front, and he was eventually assigned to duties at Imperial Headquarters in Pena. While there, he would marry the Princess Josephine, daughter of the King of Ardennes, a move which generated controversy due to the neutrality of the nation in the Pan-Anarian War.

In 7540, Michele was finally permitted a brigade command on the Western Front, and saw action in the Battle of Getashen-Şinanyan in March 7541. When his father died suddenly in July 7541 of a heart attack, and knowing his ascension to the throne would end his military career, he considered abdicating in favour of his younger brother Alfonso, but was dissuaded by his mother, the Princess Alexandra. After his ascension as Grand Prince, he became Commander-in-Chief of the Matrignanese Army, but his further role in the war was limited, due to concerns about his past support for Flavian and rivalries within the Imperial General Staff. Since the end of the Pan-Anarian War, he became well-known for his charitable initiatives (particularly in support of veterans) and remains a highly popular figure throughout Anaria. He and his wife are close friends of the Dowager Empress Aquiala of Auresia.

The fields have emptied, the guns have fallen silent, the armies have slowly withdrawn. Fifty long years of vicious, bloody war have come to a close. Let this conflict be a lesson to us all...that much work yet is needed to make this world into the place it needs to be, for all mankind.

— Dynast Emperor Emshandar III

The Isle of Galinara - known among locals simply as Galinara - is an island of the Great Banks, an area along the northern shores of Auresia. It is the largest of the islands in the region, and is a hub of tourism and recreational boating.

Galinara is 108 square miles (280 square kilometers), and it’s highest point is Mount Fasenza, standing 1,528 feet (465.7 meters) above sea level. The island has one town and three villages - Ampelotana, Benesaro, Marapoli, and Trevidicci - giving the island a year-round population of 8,615. An estimated 200,000 tourists visit the island annually. The most popular attraction is the Valavorna Forest, a protected forest and park that covers nearly half of the island.

Two features of the Isle make it well-known - it is the site of the annual Ampelotana Week regatta that has taken place every August for nearly 100 years, and it is the site of the Imperial estate at Portivorno. A private property of the House of Alexandros for nearly three centuries, the house is a favorite of Dynast Emperor Cephorus IV and he spends the remainder of winter following Winterfest there, as well as his midsummer holiday. The estate sits on the promontory of Gavoli Ridge, on the island’s southeastern shore, overlooking Vencoso Sound. A path from the estate leads to a private dock. Near the promontory of the ridge, at Gavoli Point itself, is a private cottage where the Dowager Empress stays during her visits. Perched atop Mount Fasenza is the Imperial Observatory, a private astronomy and research facility of the Dynast Emperor.

Galinara is a popular destination for conservationists and wildlife watchers. Bird watchers and ecologists visit the island year-round, studyinh its wildlife and its natural structures. The University of Gaaze maintains a study programme known as the "Galinara Course", whereby those studying the relevant courses may participate in two and three-week study trips to the Isle during the spring and fall quarters.
